31 Speakers Bureau The 31 women interviewed for the original project said the same thing, one after the other: "If my story can help just one woman..." Somehow, they said, it would feel like something so awful could then be transformed into something good, and clean, and positive. And... it works! It's an amazing--and good--feeling to share your story. The more you share it, the more it helps turn that dirty straw into gold.
So here we are: Some of the women from the original project want to do even more. They have volunteered to come visit with your club, your organization, your classroom, your study group, your event. These women can bring their voice, their story and experience to you, to start and guide discussions about domestic violence. Also, depending on your event, they can bring a mobile exhibit of 10 of the original 31 portraits for display. The large 18" x 27" portraits, on easels, with affiliated story excerpts, make outstanding and powerful conversation starters. You can have this exhibit at your all-day event, with our articulate speaker on-hand to lead discussions and answer questions.
To learn more or to see about availability of one of our fabulous speakers--and their mobile exhibit--for your event, contact Megan Thomassen at the Iowa Coalition Against Domestic Violence by email or by phone: 515-244-8028.
Cost: These women are volunteers. Event hosts are welcome to give a donation to the regional domestic violence service agency affiliated with the speaker who visits their event.
